‘A Place for the Overlooked’Humility was not a virtue among the guests at this particular party - as seen by their jockeying for places of honour. Jesus would have us learn humility, not by playing musical chairs at banquets , but by associating with the poor, the crippled, the lame and the blind. The guest list for Jesus’ feast is a parable for the Kingdom: God is the unusual host who likes to feast with those who are overlooked in a society that scrambles for honours. Behind the faces of the broken there is great dignity. Jesus keeps God’s preference for the little people at the forefront of His teaching. He has the kind of love that sees beyond appearances; the kind of love that calls people out of imprisonment. His love dignifies people. He asks that our love does too.
The place to be happy is here. The time to be happy is now. The way to be happy is to make others so. - Robert G Ingersoll
FR JOHN NALLYWe take this opportunity firstly to congratulate Fr John on his appointment as PP of Ballinacargy. We wish him every success and blessing in his new role which will be a huge change from his experience of Tullamore over the past nine years. Secondly, we thank Fr John for his great work in the parish. It is not possible to list all of his achievements in this short tribute. It is sufficient to say that he gave great enthusiasm and generosity to everything he undertook. In particular, he was very much to the fore in fostering the involvement of parishioners in the task of building up the parish as the family of God’s people, and we thank him for his support in this area. On a personal level, Fr John devoted great effort to supporting, counselling and helping those who came to him and built up a great relationship with them. His contribution has been generous and positive, and we know he will continue to use his talents to good effect in his new parish. We wish him every blessing.
