MESSENGERS OF PEACE

The message of peace is at the core of today's readings.  ‘I will send peace flowing like a river'. Is 66:12.
As Christ sent out his disciples on mission, he instructed them: ‘Whatever house you enter, let your first words be, peace to this house'. Lk 10:5

What a good place for us to start as messengers of peace, where we live and where we visit.  To bring this gift we must first have it within our own hearts.  There can be many blocks in our busy lives preventing us experiencing that peace such as anger, greed, pride, etc.  When we overcome these, peace flows from us to others.

Jesus uses us, inadequate as we might be, to be peacemakers in a world crying out for peace.

EVERYONE CHASES AFTER
HAPPINESS,
NOT NOTICING THAT
HAPPINESS IS AT THEIR HEELS.

A JOYFUL OCCASION

It is an occasion of great joy for the parish that on Sunday 8th July Tony Gonoude will be ordained priest of our diocese, here in Tullamore.  We congratulate Tony on this great day in his life and join in asking the Holy Spirit to bless him and guide throughout his life as a priest.  The Gospel of today's Mass recounts how Jesus chose seventy two others and sent them out to all the towns and village he himself was to visit.  Tony joins the ranks of those called and sent today, and we rejoice with him and for him.

Bishop Smith will ordain Tony in a special Mass commencing at 3.00pm.  All are welcome to come to this Ordination Mass, which you will find a very moving experience.

Fr Tony will celebrate his First Mass in the Church of the Assumption   Monday, 9th July at 7.30pm.  After Mass he will give his blessing to all.  Afterwards there will be a celebration in the Bridge House, including light refreshments.  All are welcome to this celebration.

Fr Tony will also celebrate Mass in Durrow on Wednesday 11th at 8.00pm.

‘This is the day the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it.'

COMMUNION REFLECTION

Every Communion we share at Mass should remind us of the call we have to spread the Good News.  As Jesus sent the 72 to all the towns and places he was to visit, so we are called to be witnesses in our time to the Gospel.  Our communion with Christ surely reminds us of his closeness to us and his guidance as we go about our daily tasks.  At this moment, my greatest challenge is to convince myself that Jesus is close to me, not just at this time of Communion, but in every moment of my life.  And so I pray: Lord, help me to be aware of your closeness to me and of the call to be your witness in the my home, in my workplace and in my leisure.  Teach me to respect all those I meet, and to cherish them as loved by you.  Teach me to teach others by the example of my witness.
