 BISHOP SMITH REFLECTS ON VISIT TO THAILAND

....Over the past 9 days, I had the opportunity to visit Thailand at the invitation of Cardinal Michael Kitbunchu to join him in blessing and opening a number of projects funded by the Diocese of Meath after the Tsunami which inflicted terrible loss of life and devastation in the south of the country.......
Everywhere I saw the same - an inspirational dignity among the people, being empowered for the future with assistance from abroad, including from this diocese.  Examples include fishermen rebuilding boats, families given new homes, and a Muslim community welcoming the wide variety of social services provided by the local Catholic parish, headed by Fr Philip....... 
As I celebrated Mass on the Feast of Christ the King, in this most beautiful corner of South East Asia, I was touched by this thought - how vast, how wonderful is God's Kingdom throughout the world!  Whilst separated by thousands of miles of land and oceans, we are as one in our shared humanity, joined as brothers and sisters responding to the call to love God and neighbour..."
