BUILDING NOW

We like to put things on the long finger, important decisions or things that challenge us.  Jesus on the other hand was a man of purpose and he expects us to have that same determination when it comes to following him.  There is no room for over attachment to material things or for those who cannot make up their minds.

We must take the decision to begin building for the kingdom now, to lives as witnesses to the presence of God with those we live, work or mix with.  It is a tough message.

‘Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom of God'.
(Luke 9:62)

Truth is always strong,
no matter how weak it looks,
and falsehoold is always
weak no matter how strong it looks
Marcus Antioninus.

FLEADH CEOIL na hEIREANN 07

In response to many enquiries, we can confirm that the main competition event of the Fleadh will be held in the Church of the Assumption on Sunday 26th August.  The event is the Ceili Band competition, which is an international event of the highest quality.  The background to this arrangement is that the local organising committee made the request for the use of the Church for this one competition almost 18 months ago, for the reason that, unless a suitable arena could be found, the Fleadh could not come to Tullamore.  The request was referred to Bishop Smith, with a full explanation of the nature of the event.  His response was to allow the Church to be used.  The conditions we have attached to the use of the Church are as follows:
-  Admission will be by pre-sold tickets only.  No money will be taken at the Church doors;
- No beverages of any kind will be allowed in the Church;
- No food or light refreshments of any kind will be allowed into the Church;
- All gates will be stewarded, and only ticket-holders will be admitted to the grounds of the Church;
- All patrons will be seated throughout the concert.

Comhaltas Ceolteori Eireann have accepted all these conditions, and wish all to understand that this one event is a cultural event of major importance with a wide international interest.

MASSES ON THE WEEKEND OF FLEADH CEOIL NA hEIREANN

Because of the anticipated large numbers
attending the Fleadh and at the request of the organising committee, we have agreed to organise extra Masses for Sunday 26th August.  The Vigil Mass will be as usual at 7.30pm.  Sunday Masses will be on the hour from 8.00am up to 1.00pm.  Mass at 11.00am will be in Irish and will be relayed by Radio na Gaeltachta.
PARISH CENTRE

To facilitate the work on our new centre, the church grounds on the Benburb St side will be closed off and we ask that only those who have a mobility problem park in the grounds.

ACCOMMODATION NEEDED

Host families required for young Christian volunteers who will be working in the Parish from Friday 6th to Sunday 15th July.  Hosts need to be within walking distance of the town.  For further details contact Fr John.
