Durrow

History
Situated five miles north of Tullamore town the community of Durrow have held on to a strong sense of their own identity while taking part fully in the life of Tullamore parish. Durrow is the site of the first monastery founded by St. Colmcille around 553AD. It was here that the Book of Durrow was written in the 7th century, a full century before the Book of Kells. Here also is the 8th Century Durrow High Cross.
