TRUST ME

The more we remind ourselves of the love Jesus lavished on us and what it cost Him, the more we will learn to trust Him.  It is a gradual process, this learning “to learn not on our own understanding, but to trust in the Lord”.

We find it very difficult to relinquish our own “infallible opinions” about pretty well everything.  However, with the help, of the Holy Spirit and patience, we can improve day by day.  Then we will be better able to hear what he tells us in times of trouble.

Jesus points out an important point for us as Christians: endurance with trust gives us an opportunity to witness Him and His providential care.  He himself will give us what we say and do and also enable us to endure.  In fact He will do everything if we trust Him.

“Commit your ways to the Lord, trust Him and he will act”.  It is precisely to help us do this in whatever is asked of us that Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit into our hearts – the Spirit of strength, comfort, endurance, peace and joy.

Lord, help us when times are difficult or dangerous to trust in your Word that “not a hair of our head will be lost.  Your endurance will win you your lives”.

MASS FOR PARENTS WHO HAVE LOST A CHILD

On Tuesday 15th November at 7.30pm in the Church of the Assumption, we will support and pray for parents who have lost a child.

At this Mass we will pray for all parents, family members and friends who have had to cope with the tragic and untimely death of their infant, child, teenager or adult son or daughter.

We will remember with love and celebrate the lives of babies who have died before or around the time of birth.  We also welcome parents who have undergone the trauma of abortion.

CAUSE OF FR. WILLIAM  DOYLE SJ:  Bishop Deenihan has promulgated an Edict announcing that he was opening the Cause for the Beatification and Canonisation of the Servant of God, Father William Doyle SJ (1873-1917). The Opening Session of the Cause will take place at the Cathedral on Sunday 20 Nov at 5pm, following Sung Vespers of the Solemnity of Christ the King.  An invitation is expended to everyone to attend with ceremony.

Father Doyle is renowned for his holiness and heroism and, though he died over a hundred years ago, his reputation for sanctity and intercessory power endures and devotion is stronger than ever throughout the world. A whole new generation is discovering him and he is winning the hearts of young Catholics who are impressed with his heroic spirit, his vibrant personality, and his intense spiritual life.

Father Willie’s connection with our diocese is an important one. He entered the Jesuits at the college in Rahan in March 1891 and the two years he spent there were among the most formative in his life.  The official website for his Canonisation offers details on his life, holiness, and sacrifice.  See: www.williedoyle.org
