MISSION SUNDAY

This year’s theme ‘We Cannot Remain Silent – We cannot but speak about what we have seen & heard (Acts 4:20)’ is twofold. It is a message of hope – Jesus Christ is risen and we cannot keep his love, compassion, and mercy to ourselves. It also challenges us to stand up and speak out on behalf of those who are weaker. All too often, the voices that need to be heard are not the loudest. For them, we cannot remain silent. If you wish to make a donation to the Mission Sunday appeal please put your donation in an envelope and drop it into the Parish Centre in the coming week or visit www.mission.ie

NOVEMBER - MONTH OF REMEMBRANCE

The month of November gives us a special opportunity to pause together to remember our loved ones.Mass for all our parishioners who were bereaved during the year will be on Saturday 6th. November at 10.00am.Mass for all parents who have lost a child will be on Tuesday 16th. November at 7.30pm.

LIST OF THE DEAD

November is the month when we pray especially for the dead.  November 1st. is the feast of All Saints and November 2nd. is the commemoration of the Faithful Departed (All Souls).

An important tradition in Ireland is writing down the names of our departed friends and relations on the Altar List of the Dead.  The list is compiled every November and Mass is offered for those on it at all List of the Dead Masses in November and every first Friday for the coming twelve months.Take time with your family to write the list.  Think of family, friends and neighbours over the years.  Particularly remember those who have no one to pray for them.  Dead lists are available in the Church.  Please fill one out, if you would like to do so and drop into the sacristy or the Parish Centre over the coming weeks.

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL

(Mark 9:38-43, 47-48)

In this story Jesus cures the blind man, Bartimaeus.  Recovery of sight in the Bible is often a metaphor for coming to faith.  Perhaps during your life you have had moments of insight, of deeper understanding, of appreciating who Jesus is for you.  What was it that helped you see more clearly?

Who has the ‘Jesus person’ who helped you to see more clearly?  Perhaps, as a parent, a teacher, or a friend, you have also been a ‘Jesus person’ for another and helped her or him to a clearer understanding of the meaning of life, love and faith.

To get to Jesus, Bartimaeus threw aside his cloak so he would not be impeded.  What have you had to discard to be able to be able to see more clearly (e.g., an assumption, a prejudice, a rigid opinion)?

‘Your faith has saved you ‘Jesus said to Bartimaeus.  Recallsituations in which you have been grateful for the faith that is yours because in some way it saved you.
