Jubilee Year Parish Pilgrimage to the Holy Door, Mullingar, Sunday April 17th. with Mass in the Cathedral at 5.00 p.m.

Over the next two weeks we will prepare for this Holy Year Pilgrimage.  A bus will leave for those who need transport at 4.00 p.m.  Please leave your name in the sacristy.

Why this pilgrimage?

The Pope has granted a Plenary Indulgence to all the faithful who pass through the Holy Door in St Peter’s Basilica in Rome and in the cathedrals and churches designated throughout the world.  The Holy Door is opened during special Jubilee or Holy Years.  The original idea was to accommodate extra pilgrims visiting the holy places.  This year the Holy Door has been given extra significance.  It symbolises the Heart of God open in Mercy.  Passing though the Holy Door calls us to a new way of life, full of mercy and compassion.  We open our hearts to God and one another in mercy.

A plenary indulgence removes all temporal punishment due to our sins in purgatory.  It is a wonderful grace granted by God through the sacraments and the ministry of the Church.

Two weeks of preparation.

At every Mass over the next two weeks we will pray the Pope’s Jubilee Year Prayer.  On the 14, 15 and 16th. April we will have a special Triduum of Mercy focusing on God’s gift of Mercy.  On Thursday 14th. we gather with the candidates for Confirmation and their families; on Friday 15th. there will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.  The Vigil Mass on Saturday 16th. will focus especially on the Holy Year and the coming pilgrimage.
