We have been made aware by Health & Safety in Tullamore, that our policies in regard to parking in the Church grounds are not being observed.  As a result this area is classified as High Risk by Health & Safety.  They suggest to us that we implement our policies, and suggest that this process should be completed by 1st March 2011.  In the coming weeks we will be outlining ways in which our Policy in this area can be implemented.

Our Policy is that barriers at the entrance to the Church grounds should be in place at all times.  A build up of cars in the grounds is significant hazard.

We ask all who come to Mass by car to give due consideration to the closeness of the Parish Car Park to the Church and to consider using this Park instead of the Church Grounds.  Our plan will provide for all who suffer any disability, to park in the Church grounds.

Parishioners with limited mobility should now apply, in writing, for a permit to park in the Church grounds during services.  Application Forms for this are available from the Parish Centre, Monday to Friday.

We recently announced our plan to restrict car parking in the church grounds to those who, because of disability or age, cannot walk any distance to the Church.  To date, seventy persons have applied for a parking permit and all of the applicants seem to have very genuine reasons for applying.  We are now processing these applications, and we hope to have permits ready for issue in the near future.
We ask all who come to Mass to understand that the underlying reason for these new arrangements relate to Health & Safety.  We trust that we will get full co-operation from all, in making the trip of all disabled persons to Mass safe.  Again we advise all or parishioners that the Parish Car Park, which is accessed at St Brigid’s Place, is available free of charge for all Mass goers.  It takes less than two minutes to walk from this car park to the Church.
We have set March 1st as the date for implementing the new arrangements and we trust that we can put them in place smoothly and without fuss.

Permits for parking your car in the Church grounds during Mass and other celebrations, will be sent out during the coming week.  We hope to have our new guidelines in place for next Sunday, 6th March.  If you feel you are entitled to a permit, and have not already applied, please do so as soon as possible to the Parish Centre.  We appeal to all non-permit holders to please use the Parish Car Park, beside the Parochial House, from now on.

You are reminded that only those with permits are permitted to park in Church grounds during religious ceremonies.  Barrier closes automatically at 11.30am but will remain open on the occasion of a funeral.
