MISSION - THE GOOD NEWS

On Mission Sunday, we recall that Jesus commanded us to ‘go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good News’.

This Good News is that Jesus loved us so much that he suffered and died for the forgiveness of our sins; and that he rose from the dead, and promised that we would also be raised from death, to eternal life with him and his Father in heaven.

His final wish was that, ‘repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all nations’.

Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can read.

MISSION SUNDAY

Every time we open a magazine published by a missionary society, we read stories of individual missionaries bringing hope and joy into the lives of people who suffer poverty, ill-health or deprivation.  Occasionally, such stories cross over into the secular media, and can feature in news programmes on radio or television.  It is natural that missionaries will represent their work and their successes in the best possible light.  But it is also true that they do extraordinary work in the field of alleviating the burden of poverty throughout the world.  All their work is inspired by a love of Jesus Christ, and a desire to share his Good News with others.
The inspiration to be drawn from the example of missionaries can inspire us to do our part in alleviating the burdens of poor people in our own community.  To do so is to share the Good News with them.  As we are asked today to support missionaries with our financial contributions, we should reflect that our money is a token of our willingness to affirm all missionaries and our desire to share the burden of poor people who live amongst us.  Mission can be lived in our own community as much as in the vast areas of poverty in the world. “MISSION IS SHARING’
