SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPELS

Matthew 25:31-46

This judgement scene contains surprises for us.  One surprise is that nobody is condemned for doing wrong, but for their failure to do good.  Being a disciple of Jesus is a positive choice about how we live and relate to others.  Perhaps sin-avoidance has sometimes dominated your view of what was being asked of you.  What difference has it made for you when you viewed your Christian life as a daily opportunity to make a positive difference to others?

Another way of saying this is that the aim of Christian living is not me-centred (about my personal sanctification) but other-centred (about responding to the needs of others).  What happens to you when you get caught up in yourself?  Is your life not better, and often more enjoyable, when you can look beyond yourself to others?

Another surprise is to hear Jesus tell us that when we do something for another, he considers it done to himself.  When has seeing Christ in others helped you in your dealings with them?

The story is about the judgement of the whole of humanity.  It presents an ideal of society in which human relationships at all levels are governed by the law of love.  In your experience what difference has it made to a group to which you belonged when there was a definite sensitivity to the needs of all members.

TULLAMORE PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

The newly formed Tullamore Parish Pastoral Assembly has agreed the wording for a new parish mission statement.

The statement is intended to communicate the aspirations and activities of our very vibrant parish and the faith-led actions of our people in parish life.

The statement is as follows:

"Tullamore parish is a community of God's people centred on the Eucharist and the Word of God. We gather in prayer and celebrate the sacraments.  We strive to be Vibrant, Inclusive, Nurturing and Encouraging, and in our own lives we aim to live justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with our God."

The new Parish Pastoral Assembly members will be formally commissioned at a special ceremony to be held during the 6.30pm Mass on Saturday 2nd December.

BISHOP DEENIHAN CONVENES DIOCESAN CONFERENCE FOR PRIESTS

This week, priests from the 69 parishes of our Diocese assembled in Cavan to begin a process of reflection on the future of priestly ministry and pastoral life in parishes in the Diocese of Meath.  During this assembly, new models of parish life, possible collaborations among parishes, the provision of sacraments, personnel and resources, faith formation and the welfare of priests were considered in the context of the mission of the Church and the desire to sustain vibrant faith communities.

The establishment and supporting of Parish Pastoral Assemblies was deemed a necessary structure in every parish. It was also agreed that there would have to be consultation and engagement with local Pastoral Assemblies before any developments occur.

While there are no simple solutions to these issues, parishes are encouraged to commend this work to their prayers as the Diocese, the Diocesan Pastoral Assembly and the various Parish Pastoral Assemblies consider the next steps in the process.
