“JESUS THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE”

Today’s gospel invites us to reflect upon what it means to call Jesus the resurrection and the life.  The scene at Bethany is indeed a very sad one.  Martha meets Jesus weeping over the death of Lazarus but affirms her belief in the resurrection of the dead at the end of time.  And Mary approaches Jesus with an even stronger confidence that He could have saved Lazarus.

It was Martha and Mary’s faith, even when confronted with Lazarus’ death that gave rise to the extraordinary miracle worked by Jesus.  With Martha and Mary, we are called by our baptism to profess our belief that Jesus is indeed the resurrection and the life.  In raising Lazarus, Jesus shows His power over death so that when He dies, those who believe in Him remember that and take hope.  As St Paul says: “if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, then he who raised Jesus from the dead will give life to your own mortal bodies through his Spirit living in you.”  (Rom 8:11)

FOR CHILDREN BAPTISED IN 2022

We invite parents and their children to the celebration of the Eucharist on Easter Sunday, April 9th, at 10.00am in Tullamore Church.  We would like you to join us, to celebrate and remember your child’s baptism and entry into the Christian Community during 2022.  All children will receive a blessing at the end of Mass.  Please come and be part of this special occasion.

DAY OF RECONCILIATION & MASS FOR SICK

Two of the sacraments celebrate healing – Holy Anointing and Confession.  One is for the body and the other is for the soul.  On Monday of Holy Week, 3rd April, both sacraments will be celebrated.

There will be a Penitential Ceremony after 7.45am, 10.00am and 7.30pm Masses.  A Priest will be available in the Church for Confessions from 8.00am-1.00pm and from 3.00-7.00pm.

The Sacrament of the Sick will be offered during Mass for Healing at 2.00pm.

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL

John 9:1-41

Martha and Mary were people of faith but Jesus led them to an even deeper faith.  Who were the people who led you to a deeper faith in Jesus?  Remember them and give thanks.

Martha and Mary were struggling to come to terms with their bereavement.  What has helped you in similar situations?

The concern of Jesus is palpable and touching.  Recall those who matter to you and to whom you matter.  Such love mediates God’s love, which surpasses human love with the gift of new life and Easter joy.

One can imagine Lazarus as a symbol of people and groups that are written off as dead (sometimes by themselves), and yet through faith come back to life again.  Have you had the experience of being revived by faith?  Has faith helped to free you from what held you in bondage, or was destructive of your life?
