RELATIONSHIPS
Our own life experience tells us that every person is unique. We really don’t know another person unless they reveal themselves to us and this revealing is always a gift. This is true above all of the mystery of God Himself who in Humility and Love reveals Himself to us as a Father who loves us into being; the Son who loves us more than His own life; and the Spirit of Love who dwells in our hearts.
So do we ourselves have a genuine relationship with Him? How can we tell? St John tells us that if we can’t love the brother/sister we can see, how can we love the God we don’t see? It is our human relationships that give us the barometer we need to gauge our love of God and also prunes us of our selfishness, giving Love room to find a home in us.
An easy check as to how that relationship is going is to take note of our resentments. Are we willing to try and let them go, be they small or large. For that we surely need the grace of God which always awaits us and even goes before us. But we need to ask His help. The “Spirit of Forgiveness” who dwells in our heart only longs to give us the help we need if we genuinely want it - even if we have to ask Him to help us want to want it!
Some people dream of success...while others wake up and work hard for it!
CORPUS CHRISTI
Next weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. It is the Feast above all others which brings us face to face with Christ and his desire to be part of our lives. We might reflect on a few points about the Eucharist in our lives.
• Pope John Paul 2 (now Blessed) continually emphasized the centrality of the Eucharist in the life of the Church
• The early Christians always referred to the Eucharist as the “Sacrament of Unity”. By this they surely meant that by sharing in Holy Communion, we are bonded to one another through our common bond of union with Christ. Hence the origin of the word Communion.
• All families love to celebrate First Holy Communion with their children, and make it a family day of joy. We sometimes forget that First Communion is a beginning of something important for all of us. We must follow through from our First Communion to deepen our Faith in the Eucharist and Christ’s love for us.
• The disciples found it very hard to accept the truth of Christ’s giving us his Flesh to eat and his Blood to drink. Only after the coming of the Holy Spirit did they begin to truly believe in the mystery of the Eucharist.
• Many people today find it hard to accept the Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Christ. This is a time to reflect on how definite Jesus was about His gift of his Body and Blood, and to allow ourselves time to find faith
• Our Procession next Saturday evening is a call to publicly affirm our faith in the Blessed Eucharist Especially the children who have received First Communion should be part of the Procession. An invitation is being sent to all of them and their parents to take part in the Procession.
The Corpus Christi Procession takes place next Saturday, 25, after 7.30pm Mass.
The Route is as follows: Store St, Harbour St, William St, Church St, Henry St, Harbour St and concluding with Benediction in church grounds.
SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPELS - John 3:16-18
1 The reading evokes contrasting images of God, a God who judges and a God who saves. We might reflect on how our image of God has changed with the years. What has helped you to believe that God is on your side?
2 God sent his Son into the world for this purpose, that we might have eternal life. How has the story of Jesus helped you to believe that God wants nothing more for you than that you should have life in abundance?
3 The eternal life promised is life that survives all forms of death, failure, defeat and humiliation. What has helped you to have that sense of being alive, even in painful and disappointing circumstances? John Byrne, Intercom June ‘11
