HUMILITY

Humility is the truth of our own existence.  It lets God be God.  The gospel today encourages the practice of humility.  Take the banquet that Jesus was invited to.  He was not impressed at the sight of people pushing forward, rushing for the best seats.  In the world of today, humility does not get a good press.  It is a world of power and privilege, where the fittest and those who push themselves usually succeed.  It is wrongly associated with spineless people.

Humility is an attempt to see ourselves as God sees us.  We all have been given talents in order to use them for the sake of others.  Each of us has been given something that is meant to make the world a better place for the rest of us.

The humble are those who do not have to control everything, or have reasons for everything.  Neither do they need to be sure of things.  They are those who do their best; let life take its course and let things happen.  They let work, plans and people go their own way, because they trust them and trust God.

Then God can work in their lives.  Then they can allow change knowing that “God saves a humble people”, Ps 18.

PASSING ON THE FAITH TO OUR YOUNG PEOPLE

The J - Unit returns on Sunday 8that 7pm.

On Sunday 22nd of September we will have the launch party for Youth Alpha.  Youth Alpha is a programme that is being used by groups all around the world to help young people explore the character and claims of Jesus.  Over 10 weeks the course looks at topics from ‘Who is Jesus?’ and ‘Why did Jesus die?’ to ‘How & why should I read the Bible?  These topics are explored in a fun way and in a way that is relevant to young people.  This year’s Youth Alpha looks to be very exciting with a new Alpha resource developed by Canada being rolled out in early September.  Tullamore Parish will be one of the first parishes to use this new resource.   All young people between 6thclass to 6th Year are encouraged to come along to the launch party which will feature young locals bands!  More details in the coming weeks!

CEMETERY SUNDAY IN DURROW

Next Sunday, 8th,is Cemetery Day in Durrow.  Blessing of graves will take place after 11.30am Mass.

VOCATIONS

Last weekend new seminarians began their journey of discernment and formation at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth.  Meath Diocese currently has nine students in Maynooth and Rome. We have no new students this year, so as we continue to keep our students in prayer, please pray for an increase in vocations.  Don’t hesitate to encourage young men whom you know might make a good priest, to consider such a way in life.

If you are interested in being a diocesan priest do more than just think about it! Take the first step in following the Lord’s call, by discussing the whole notion of ‘being a priest’ with your local priest or contact the Diocesan Vocations Director on 01-8255342
