SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL There can be an element of defensiveness in our relationships with others. We are reluctant to let another see us as we see ourselves. Occasionally we meet someone with whom we can be totally open and know we will be accepted. With whom have you had that kind of relationship? What was it like for you to have that freedom? Likewise with God, when we come to prayer pretending to be better than we are, we are hiding from God. What difference does it make when you pray to God, acknowledging your faults and limitations? Have you ever found that in prayer, when you are humble in this way, God lifts you up? The parable is also a cautionary tale against judging others negatively on the basis of externals. Perhaps God, who looks into the heart, sees another picture. When have you discovered there was more to another person than the negative picture you got from the first impression? John Byrne OSA LIST OF THE DEAD November is the month when we pray especially for the dead. November 1st is the feast of all the saints and November 2nd is the Commemoration of the faithful departed. An important tradition in Ireland is writing down the names of our departed friends and relations on the Altar List of the Dead. The list is compiled every November and Mass is offered for those on it at all List of the Dead Masses in November and every first Friday for the coming twelve months. Take time with your family to write the list. Think of family, friends and neighbours over the years. Particularly remember those who have no one to pray for them. Dead lists are available in the church. Please fill one out, if you would like to do so and drop into the Sacristy or the Parish Centre over the coming weeks. NIGHT OF LIGHT CELEBRATION OF HALLOWEEN Halloween means ‘the evening of the Saints’ and while it has been re designated by culture as a night of goblins and gowls, the whole idea of Halloween is the preparation for the great feast of All Saints Day November 1st. To mark this, there is a party for kids in the Parish Centre, 5.30-7.30pm on Thursday 31st October, Fun, food and games, with a little dash of prayer! Children are invited to come along dressed as…. their favourite Saint!
TULLAMORE PARISH WORKING TOGETHER WITH AND FOR CHRIST This weekend we acknowledge the contribution that volunteers make to our Parish Community and we extend an invitation for extra volunteers. There are abundant opportunities to get involved no matter how small a persons time and availability may be. We have opportunities for readers, ministers of Holy Communion, hospitality ushers, collectors, musicians, various choirs, not to forget our beautiful gem – The Hospital Chapel, adoration and ministering to the sick. Numerous groups and committees for example would warmly welcome new members. We welcome new people, we welcome young people, we welcome people of all ages, to come on board, to assist and to continue on the wonderful work that has been and is being carried out. To truly understand the joy of volunteering is to experience it for yourself and there is so much you can do and be part of it! Please fill in the form you have on your seat or printed on this bulletin and drop it into the Parish centre or the sacristy before next weekend. A parish is people united with Christ; this is your invitation from Him to be part of His story.
