SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPELS

Luke 3:10-18

‘What should we do?’ The common thread in John’s answers was to encourage his questioners to be other-centred rather than self-centred, each in the context of their own circumstances. In your experience, what difference has it made for you when you changed your attitude in this way?

John told the people in a direct and honest way what they should do. Perhaps you have had friends who did not beat about the bush but have told you honestly what they thought about your behaviour when you asked them? In gratitude, recall such friends.

The humility of John comes out in this passage, happy to acknowledge that he only had a minor role to play in relation to the Messiah. At the same time he was enthused by his mission to ‘proclaim the good news to the people’. What difference has it made for you when you were able to see the good in yourself, and use your gifts without having to score by portraying yourself as greater than someone else?

JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON

On next Sunday, December 23rd, you are invited to bring the baby Jesus from your family Crib to Mass, where they will be blessed – we remember “Jesus is the reason for the season!”

EVENING PRAYER & BENEDICTION

Evening Prayer and Benediction continues today, Sunday, at 5.30pm in Tullamore Church.  This is a beautiful time of prayer and reflection in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, as we join with the whole Church throughout the world in praise to God.

LONGEST NIGHT, DAWN OF HOPE - FRIDAY 21ST 7.30PM

The last 12 to 18 months have been a difficult time for our parish community. Many of our families have suffered bereavement. Friends have been lost, loved ones are greatly missed. In the face of it all many have lost hope. We are a people of hope; a people of faith and a people of love. Sometimes we just need to reconnect.

On Friday 21st - the longest night of the year - we are inviting everyone to a Ceremony of HOPE AND HEALING in the Church of the Assumption. We will pray for our loved ones who have gone and hold tight our loved ones who are still with us. There will be refreshments afterwards in the Parish Centre.  PLEASE share this with your family and friends.

A time of prayer for healing and for the community:  Preparing for Fri 21st,  Rev. Clodagh Yambasu will host a time of prayer and healing in the Parish Centre Prayer Room on Thursday 20th from - 10.45 -11.45. All are welcome.

RECONCILIATION & MASSES FOR CHRISTMAS

Advent is a time of preparing.  We put up the decorations and buy presents.  The town is beautiful with Christmas lights.  This time of the year is all about getting ready.

We also prepare inside.  We have the chance to look at our lives, to examine how the year has gone, and see what needs to be put right before the celebration of Christ’s birth.  We do this in the most special way by going to Confession – the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Saturday 22nd is a day set aside for this in the parish.  It is our annual Day of Reconciliation.  Confessions will follow after the 10.00am Mass.  There will be a special Reconciliation Service at 12.00noon.  There will be a priest available for Confessions until 6.00pm.  So if there is something that needs to be put right with God, our families, our neighbours, school or work colleagues, Saturday 22nd is the day to do it.

There will also be Confessions on Sunday 23rd from 2.00-5.30pm and another Reconciliation Service on Christmas Eve at 12noon.

CHRISTMAS MASS TIMES: Christmas Eve 6.30pm & 9.00pm.  Durrrow 12.00 midnight.

Christmas Day as Sunday.  Polish Mass 2.30pm
