PERSEVERANCE

Somebody once said that the gift was given to us for perseverance. This is very true as the prophet Habakkuk would tell you. He was wondering who he could live in a world surrounded by people of violence, strife and greed. The Lord asked him to remain faithful in spite of the apparent hopelessness which would make the average person despair.

Indeed the Lord could ask us the same thing in the present day. We are surrounded by crime, violence and people who have no thought or care for each other. We have to have courage to keep doing the will of God in spire of all the obstacles put in our way.

God assures us that he is with us at all times even though we are not always aware of his presence.

We have to have God-given courage even when the world is in chaos around us. Remember what the Lord said, “I am with you always, even to the end of time”. We have His word.

EUROPEAN & NATIONAL GOLD MEDALS

It has been an historic week for our town winning Gold Medals in two competitions. In the European Entente Florale and in the National Tidy Towns. Both of these medals have come from the hard work of the Tullamore Tidy Towns group and so many volunteers and from the people of the town taking pride in our environment. It is a testimony to community spirit and to people working together for the benefit of everyone. Congratulation to all.

THANKS

We would like to thank all who played, sponsored or helped in any way to make our “Golf Classic” the success it was. Funds raised were: €13,200.00

POPE JOHN PAUL II AWARD

The Pope John Paul II awards were designed to encourage young people to become more actively involved in their parish and local community and to support them in deepening their faith.

It is envisaged by the Steering Committee that the next group of parishes and schools will begin the awards over the coming months. All young people who wish to participate in the programme must register with the John Paul II committee and their work be overseen by a local Programme Awards Leader from the parish/school who acts as a liaison with the committee.

Further information about the awards and how they will operate within the diocese of Meath may be found online at

http://thepopejohnpauliiawardd.com/meath/ or by contacting Sean on 086 8300334.

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPELS

Luke 17:5-10

Faith can move mountains. Well, it certainly gets us moving. Recall a time when you were full of self-doubt, skepticism about a project, or lacking trust in God. What was that like? Contrast this with times when you believed in yourself, or in the value of a project you had undertaken, or when your faith and trust in God were strong.  What kind of faith have you found that enriched your life?

Faith is like a mustard seed:small; and sometimes we may be tempted to wait till our faith grows. Part of the message in today’s gospel is to use the faith we have, even though it may be small. That is how we grow in belief in ourselves and in God’s presence in our lives. Does your experience back up this?

It is nice when what we do is recognized and acknowledged, but the desire for recognition leaves us vulnerable. It is not always forthcoming. It can be helpful if our main motivation in doing something is in the value of the act itself. Have you experienced this?

Love is a free gift. What is given lovingly is not given because of a claim. What is your experience of love given and received?

John Byrne OSA – Intercom Oct. 2016
