THREE IN ONE

Today, the Feast of the Holy Trinity opens us up to the mystery of three persons in one God.  It has always been and still is a mystery to us, however deeply we think we understand.

Many of the most precious things in life we cannot explain but they can be experienced and appreciated in time.

We address the Trinity in a very familiar way when we make the Sign of the Cross and invoke God as Father or Abba as Jesus called Him.  God as Son who shared fully in human nature as Son of Mary, helps us as humans to share in the nature of God and the Spirit of Truth or Holy Spirit present and at work in us since creation.

In a picture of the Trinity by Rublev, there is a space at the table where they are seated which we are invited to fill.  Will we respond to that openness and hospitality and draw closer to the intimacy of the Trinity than we can ever imagine?

As St Paul says, “the love of God has been poured out in our own hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us”, (Rom. 5:5)

To have faith in the Trinity is a gift from God.  Let us say thanks for that gift today and for God’s presence in our lives.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

MONTH OF MAY - The Memorare

This popular prayer to the Mother of God was composed by St Bernard. The word memorare is the first word of the prayer in Latin.

Remember,O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that any one who fled to thy protection, implored thy help or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence,I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins my Mother;to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful; O Mother of thy Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy clemency hear and answer me. Amen.
