SERVICE AND HEALING

In today’s Gospel Jesus begins to teach. He speaks with authority and there is a presence of God’s power in His words. His divine authority is shown when He cast out the noisy unclean Spirit from the possessed man. Demon possession was an accepted fact in the New Testament. Whether I believe in personal demons or not, I am conscious of being pulled away from God, eg by being dishonest or envious.

The Psalm is an invitation to pray. We are invited to kneel and bend low to the God who made us. We are told to listen to His voice.... as Jesus told the possessed man to be quiet. “Be still in the presence of the Lord. The Holy One is here...”

Jesus from the beginning of His ministry revealed how the gift of power is to be expressed in healing, service, compassion and mercy.

Love that does not renew itself every day becomes a habit and in turn a slavery. - Kahlil Gibran

MASS OF HEALING

Friday 3rd is the feast of St Blaise. At 7.30pm there will be a Mass of Healing incorporating the blessing of throats. The celebration however is for all who are sick in mind, body or soul. Mass will conclude with a procession of the Blessed Sacrament in the same style as Lourdes and Knock.

LOOKING FORWARD TO LENT

Ash Wednesday is on 22nd Feb and that means that we are within a month of the beginning of this holy season. Lent is a time for preparation for Easter and is also a time for us to examine our lives and deepen our faith in Jesus Christ. In the coming weeks we keep it in mind that this season of grace is coming and that Lent gives us an opportunity to deepen our awareness of God’s presence in our lives.

ALPHA

Monday and Tuesday sees the start of New Alpha courses. The first session is a “Come and See” session. The talk on the evening is called “Christianity: Boring, untrue, irrelevant?” The Alpha Course touches lives. So many people have found a personal relationship with God & a quiet strength in their life after doing the course. Alpha is a non-pressured, fun and informative course, and it shows us how Christianity can be relevant and empowering to our lives. It is a place to relax, share your thoughts and explore the meaning of life. For more details go to www.tullamoreparish.ie and click on “Alpha”.

SUICIDE AWARENESS

If you are worried about someone or if you are feeling down, lowly and need to talk to someone please talk to: Living Links 0861600641; Samaritans 1850609090; Console 1800201890.

If you are concerned about someone you can follow these three steps.
1. Show you care.
Offer support and let them know you care. Say something like, “I'm worried about you and I want to help”; “What's up? I'm very worried about you”; “Whatever's bothering you we will get through this together”.
2. Ask the Question
Don't be afraid to discuss suicide. Asking about it won't put the idea in people's heads: “Do you feel like harming yourself?” “Do you feel like ending your life?”; “Are you so down that you just want to end it all?”
3. Call for help
Encourage them to look for help; “Let's talk to someone who can help”; “I will stay with you until you get help”; “You're not alone and there are people who can help you out of this situation”.
For more information go to www.tullamoreparish.ie

“God is in the centre of every persons present moment, therefore no one is ordinary”.

On occasions such as the death of a loved one we see how precious life is. We see how much people depend on one another, rely on one another. We realise that our presence or our absence in this world does make a difference.
