Parish of the Assumption Area Code: 057 29th January 2012 Msgr. Seán Heaney, P. P. Mass Times Holy Days St. Colmcille’s Church Durrow First Friday: 7.45am and 10.00am Confessions PARISH CENTRE SERVICE AND HEALING In today’s Gospel Jesus begins to teach. He speaks with authority and there is a presence of God’s power in His words. His divine authority is shown when He cast out the noisy unclean Spirit from the possessed man. Demon possession was an accepted fact in the New Testament. Whether I believe in personal demons or not, I am conscious of being pulled away from God, eg by being dishonest or envious. The Psalm is an invitation to pray. We are invited to kneel and bend low to the God who made us. We are told to listen to His voice.... as Jesus told the possessed man to be quiet. “Be still in the presence of the Lord. The Holy One is here...” Jesus from the beginning of His ministry revealed how the gift of power is to be expressed in healing, service, compassion and mercy. Love that does not renew itself every day becomes a habit and in turn a slavery. - Kahlil Gibran MASS OF HEALING Friday 3rd is the feast of St Blaise. At 7.30pm there will be a Mass of Healing incorporating the blessing of throats. The celebration however is for all who are sick in mind, body or soul. Mass will conclude with a procession of the Blessed Sacrament in the same style as Lourdes and Knock. LOOKING FORWARD TO LENT Ash Wednesday is on 22nd Feb and that means that we are within a month of the beginning of this holy season. Lent is a time for preparation for Easter and is also a time for us to examine our lives and deepen our faith in Jesus Christ. In the coming weeks we keep it in mind that this season of grace is coming and that Lent gives us an opportunity to deepen our awareness of God’s presence in our lives. So many people have found a personal relationship with God & a quiet strength in their life after doing the course. Alpha is a non-pressured, fun and informative course, and it shows us how Christianity can be relevant and empowering to our lives. It is a place to relax, share your thoughts and explore the meaning of life. For more details go to www.tullamoreparish.ie and click on “Alpha”.
